 Maintenance, Base, Delivery.

Delivery Information:

Due to such demand we deliver our timber products on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (This may vary depending on availability). We use our 3.5 tonne truck for delivery with trained drivers operating under our control rather than a national carrier. This gives you a better service, since garden buildings tend to be a tricky product for carriers to handle.

We understand that access can be different for everyone. If your building needs to be taken through or over something like a house, wall or fencing or under archways and around tight right angle turns, please ensure that our team are informed at the point of enquiry, as this may affect how it is built. It would also be appreciated if any obstructions could be moved before arrival so that the delivery of your building runs as smoothly as possible as sections of the building can be very heavy.

Base Requirements:

When enquiring about your building we always ask what base you have prepared, or will need to prepare. With any base it is vital that it is FIRM and LEVEL. This is to make sure that the building sits level and to prevent any future problems. Any future problems that may occur when the shed isn't on a level base include, the door being hard to open, the door dropping which is noticeable when the pad bolt doesn't line up and close.

Different types of bases:

  • Concrete- we recommend this to be the same size as the floor of your building, (please confirm floor sizes with us before passing details to your contractor) This is so water falls off away from your floor bearers. We also have a list of trusted groundworkers we can get you in touch with.

  • Paved

  • Timber frame/ bearer base- we can provide and install.

  • Block work base- instead of a full concrete base, we can let you know the distance between our floor bearers for placement.

  • Plastic grid base- available from garden centers.

Maintenance:

Before your building leaves the workshop it is dipped in a water based acrylic treatment from Protek products at Glastonbury. Protek's Premium Plus Grade is a water-based wax enriched wood protection with a sophisticated formulation combining high-quality acrylic copolymer with paraffin wax. Premium Plus contains more pigment, wax and acrylic than the standard Premium Grade range.

We recommend that your building is treated within the first 8 months and then annually. You can buy this treatment directly from us for £15 (5 litres). Protek's nearest treatment is their Timber Eco Shield or their Shed and Fence products available online: https://www.protekwoodstain.co.uk/products/

Care:

All our buildings are hand built to your specification here in our yard to the highest possible standard of craftsmanship. We use 3” by 2” CLS for our internal framework, which combined with your choice of external cladding gives our buildings exceptional strength. But this can't always be assured due to the UK weather being harsh on the buildings making common problems occur:

  • Swelling and shrinkage of the timber

  • Discoloration to the wood

  • The handles, hinges and locks seizing.

  • The door being hard to open, the door dropping which is noticeable when the pad bolt doesn't line up and close.

To help prevent these problems from happening try these steps:

  • Re apply our dip treatment to the building annually to help the building last longer and be able to stand through harsh weather conditions. Treating the wood can also help with discoloration (this occurs because wood is a natural product). You can buy a 5 litre can of treatment from us for £15.

  • Try to place your shed in a space where there is little overhang of trees over the roof. This will help to stop debris twigs or leaves from falling on the roof of the building or into the guttering.

  • Remove any of the fallen leaves or debris away from around the base of the shed. This helps to let the building have air flow under and around the base. By doing this it will also reduce any damp.

  • Make sure that the base that the building is going on is level, this helps to make sure everything lines up properly and stops things like the latches not being level or doors not closing properly and framework subsiding.

  • Apply oil or wd40 to the hinges, locks and handles to help prevent them from seizing.

If you do have any problems with your building from us, then please don't hesitate to contact us and we will always try our best to help resolve the problem for you.
